How Do I Turn Battle Pets Rare in Warcraft?

When it comes to upgrading the quality of your pets whether it be a crafted pet, a wild pet, a pet given to you from an NPC or out of a loot bag you only have 3 options;

Flawless Class Battle-Stones

The Flawless Class Battle-Stones are pet class specific. This means that it will only work on class the stones name mentioned. For example a flying class pet will need a Flawless Flying Battle-Stone, or a beast class pet will need a Flawless Beast Battle-Stone.

This stone will upgrade any quality pet to a rare quality. It will turn a poor, common, or uncommon pet straight to rare quality instantly. There is one downfall to using this stone, the pet you upgrade can lose as many as 2 levels if the pet is above level 15. Flawless Class Battle-Stones are "Bind to Account" so you can move them back and forth between your toons, which is nice if you want to keep track of how many of each you have by sending them all to one toon.

You can get Flawless Class Battle-Stones from the various types of satchels that drop off raid bosses and world bosses but they are most commonly found in the Sack of Pet Supplies you get as a reward from completing the pet battle dailies given by the grand master pet tamers on each continent. Since patch 5.3 went live each time you get a satchel and don't get one of these stones your chances increase with each satchel you open until you get one then it resets. so say you have a 10% chance to get one on the first bag you open and you don't get one, the next bag will have a 20% then 30% then 40% and so on and so on. Those are accurate numbers but I have not failed to get one past the 5th bag I opened.

 Flawless Battle-Stones

The Flawless Battle-Stones work a lot like the first option but these stones are restricted by class, however they have a lot lower chance to drop than the Flawless Class Battle-Stones. I will typically sell these on the Auction House. Being able to be sold is one of the up sides to these. The Undermine Journal shows that they sell for a median price of about 5000 gold depending on your server this may be a viable option for you as well. The increased drop rate from each bag DOES NOT apply to these stones.

I've picked up 90% of the Flawless Battle-Stones I have from PVP Battles I queued for in the Pet Battle UI.

There is talk of a version of this stone that is not able to be sold on the Auction House but can be obtained through the same satchels and is categorized as "Bind to Account" These are listed on the PTR as Marked Flawless Battle-Stones.

Polished Battle-Stone

Your third and final option is one of the Polished Battle-Stones. This stone mostly shows up when you win a PVP random duel through the Pet Battle UI or when you win pet battle with the wild roaming world pets. They can be purchased with 1000 Justice Points from a vendor named Commander Lo Ping in Townlong Steppes.

Unlike the Flawless Class Battle-Stones, this one will turn any Poor or Common quality pet to and Uncommon quality of any class. It still has a chance to lower your pet up to 2 levels if the pet you are using it one is at or above level 15.

There is some talk that you will be able to trade 10 of these with a vendor to get 1 of the Flawless Class Battle-Stones. The patch where this is to be added is still not 100% confirmed but most likely with be in the 5.4 patch.
